¿What is Corazón Verde?

Due to its extensive green campus, with over 450 trees that embellish it, the CCB decided to create an environmental program that would take care of this wonderful school, its resources and name it “Corazón Verde”. This program carries out  activities where students interact directly with their environment.

Corazón Verde seeks to increase our community’s awareness of the relationship between humans and the environment in order to minimize our environmental impact while at the same time exploring possibilities of generating personal habits (for example the 3r’s) that contribute to the preservation of our campus and our planet.

What we do

Water Resource: We take care of the brook that streams directly from the Pance River and etches across our entire campus. We also have our own potable water treatment plant.

Energy Resource: At CCB we push for the rational use of energy in our administrative offices and our classrooms. We’ve replaced our facility’s light bulbs with LED technology.

School environmental project: Since we are committed to the protection and care of the environment, the CCB designed a school environmental project that aims to improve and reforest its environment with materials produced within it. This project is divided into three fundamental fronts: composting, garden and a nursery.

Solid waste: The school has implemented an integral solid waste management plan as a way to promote attitudes and practices for the proper disposal and separation of the waste generated at CCB. We also have storage units for solid, usable, non-usable, dangerous and biohazard waste.

Fauna and flora: You can find different types of palms, samanes, coal, guayacanes, ceibas, leucaenas, tulips, guácimos, citrus, yellow flower, gualanday, acacias, among other plants and trees. In the trees you can see squirrels, iguanas, canaries, woodpeckers, some eaglets and a variety of parrots among other local birds

Environmental education: Corazón Verde also seeks to create a social awareness in our CCB Community towards environmental care and sustainable development. This outlook is shared with our new staff members, teachers, and students from all grades.

Social responsibility: All the profits earned from the sale of the recycled material we gather at School, are handed to our Comité de Obra Social  - COS, to support their social program with the students of the Jorge Eliecer Gaitán School.

Safe handling of chemical substances: It is essential to prevent diseases and accidents that can be caused by chemical substances in the School, so we established the guidelines for the purchase, storage, transportation, use and final disposition of all chemical substances in accordance with the current Colombian legislation.

Discharges: In accordance with the Colombian Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, our institution performs a yearly physicochemical characterization of its liquid discharges and are presented to EMCALI, the local authority.
