On Thursday August 26, a delegation of 7 CCB students participated in the first Round Square meeting of the academic year entitled "Democracy: Fuelling Future Development". This event was organised by the Doon School in India and the main theme was democracy and its role in building comprehensive solutions to the problems of inequality in the world.

The Round Square pillars are 6 and they are also known as "IDEALS": Internationalism-Democracy-Environmentalism-Adventure-Leadership- Service.

Recognising that positive and meaningful change begins with courageous conversations, Round Square schools connect students with their peers in various countries for an open and honest dialogue about some of the most difficult and sensitive issues facing our world today.

The essence of Round Square is to step out of the classroom and put all of the students' knowledge and skills into practice. It is an opportunity to use what they have learned about international affairs in different spaces such as debates, discussions and lectures, where they can challenge themselves, develop research, public speaking and argumentation skills to find harmonious solutions together.

Pierre Sejnaui, Secondary teacher of Individuals and Societies, was in charge of guiding the CCB delegation to this event.

"It is a meeting where all the students will be able to express their knowledge, their proposals and their skills. It is a moment for everyone to meet and go from the theoretical to the practical, so that they can really experience what democracy is in a real scenario," said Pierre.

CCB was represented by our students Ernesto Estela, Pau Suso, Isabella Páramo, Mariana Ramírez, Laura López, Emilia Arabia and Patrick Govea. At the video conference, the different conceptions of democracy were discussed and there were theoretical and conceptual debates on the model of government and social organisation. Mariana Ramírez (12th grade) commented on this experience.

"It was quite interesting to talk to people from around the world, to learn about different conceptions of democracy and how this form of social organisation is perceived in India. We had a good participation in the conference" said Mariana.

We hope that more students will join in and participate in Round Square events throughout the year. Being part of Round Square opens up doors to the world!
