On August 6th Arbey Castro, Director of the CCB Symphonic Band, was invited by the Mayor's Office of Santander de Quilichao to the official inauguration of the Hall of Excellence in the Municipal Public Library, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. There he was commended for his career as the most awarded band director in this region.

At the event, 18 portraits of representative figures throughout the history of the region were unveiled, in the celebration of the 266th birthday of Santander de Quilichao. One of these portraits was that of Arbey. Among those honoured were sportsmen, scientists, writers and artists.

"It was very exciting to see how they recognised other people. To realise what important careers they had. It was a special thing to be able to share with all of them," said Arbey. 

This distinction recognises the achievements and artistic career of Arbey, who was the conductor of the Santander de Quilichao Symphonic Band for almost 12 years.In addition to his work as conductor with "La Banda de Andes", "La Banda Especial de Donmatías Antioquia", "La Banda Infantil de Donmatías Antioquia" and "La Banda Especial de Rionegro".

"For me this award is very significant, because knowing that an artist painted my portrait and that it will be exhibited in the library, causes me a lot of impact," said Arbey.

As Director and Cultural Manager, Arbey has received many distinctions, such as the Samán de Oro which is one of the highest awards given by the Mayor's Office of Santander de Quilichao. In addition, he has also received several recognitions at the regional level.
