Sara Vallejo and Juliana Pombo are two talented 10th grade students who love the arts. Both have an enormous talent for music and their participation in various artistic events at the school proves it.

On this occasion, the duo's singing talent came to the fore. A music class assignment that they took very seriously revealed an ability they had not previously explored. Their teacher, Luis Felipe Gutiérrez was pleasantly surprised.

"They went a step further, taking advantage of their ability to sing and play the ukulele. They are very talented," Luis Felipe told us.

Save Earth is a beautiful song that invites us to work as a team to take care of the environment, become aware of the reality of the planet and change our habits. A really moving piece and a very good song.

"I have shown the song to my parents and friends. They tell me that they really like the way it sounds, that the vocals are in tune and that they like the message it conveys" Juliana told us.

The song was written in two classes, but Juliana and Sara went through the whole creative process involved in a full musical production. They searched for a melody (Island in the Sun, by the band Weezer) that they adapted to their lyrics, recorded and edited both the vocals and the video that they used to complement their adaptation.

"Part of this work was also that we were able to be together and we were able to enjoy the process because we are very close friends," said Sara.

There is no doubt that our classrooms are full of talent and awareness. Juliana and Sara are proof of that. It fills us with pride and happiness to see this kind of work done by our students. We wish them the best and we hope they continue to nurture their talent.

CCB Profile is a space to share the life stories of some of the school's employees. They are a sample of the commitment, effort and dedication that all our staff members have with the school. CCB Profile seeks to talk about this life philosophy, work, personality, values and trajectory through some of the members of the CCB Community. In the end, they are stories about a job well done, love and respect for Colegio Colombo Británico.

A teacher and 5th grade coordinator; patient, creative, joyous and mellow, that is Juliana Ostheimer. She has 13 years worth of experience in the classroom. She is a literature graduate and a teacher in love with her students and her profession.

She became a teacher almost by chance. It was her university advisor who suggested it to her after graduation. In her first contact with teaching as an assistant, she realised she was in the right place.

"I fell in love with education, I found that it was where I belonged and that was what I wanted to be for the rest of my life," Juliana told us.

She has been working at CCB for 3 years and has found our educational community to be like a great family.  Her role as a teacher brings out the best in her. You see this in her classes and in the way her students and colleagues respond to her with affection. Her rapport with the students is immediate and that makes her work all the more rewarding.

"Children are a reminder that the essence of the human being is love and sometimes we adults, for different reasons, tend to forget that" Juliana.

Juliana also enjoys art. When she paints she feels free, each time she picks up the brush she expresses everything she is, everything she feels is captured on the canvas. She loves painting. It is what she enjoys doing most in her free time.

"For me art is an expression of who we are as people" Juliana.

As a child she wanted to be a veterinarian and although she was unable to fulfil her dream, she continues to demonstrate her love for animals, especially dogs.

"I love dogs, I love dogs. Animals are the most beautiful thing in the world", Juliana told us.

Thank goodness that fate brought Juliana into a classroom. Because we are very proud that someone like her is part of the CCB family. Seeing her share her knowledge with such passion, gives us the certainty that our students are in good hands.

That's why Juliana Ostheimer is a #CCBProfile.

Our students Elisa Villamizar (11º), Alejandro Quintero (11º) and Luciana Medina (6º) were called by the Federación Colombiana de Golf to participate in the IMG Junior World Championships that will take place in San Diego, California, on July 12 - 16

Additionally, Elisa and Alejandro will showcase their golfing skills in the Optimist International Junior Championships 2021, Miami, Florida, July 24 -29 as well.

Our young golfers handle a strict training program in parallel to their School assignments. Training schedules range from a minimum of 4 hours daily, that is increased if they are close to competing in a tournament. They must make the most of these sessions that include physical preparation as well as honing key mental and psychological aspects of the game.

Elisa Villamizar explained how she pulls it off, getting the right balance between training and homework.

“I think it is imperative to know how to organize your schedule in order to succeed in School and in Golf.  Besides, you must have your priorities straight to strike a balance between the things that I want to do”, said Elisa.

Students are given a flexible schedule that allows them to participate in national and international competitions under the High Performance Athletes program at CCB. Luciana, Elisa and Alejandro are part of this program. Currently, 27 students enjoy the benefits of this program.

It's true that these three golfers are on the younger side but that doesn’t mean they are lacking in experience. This is not their first international event. Golf isn’t just a game to them. They take it seriously because they figure it's worth it and train accordingly because they know they are representing the School, Cali and Colombia.

When Alejandro got news of his current ranking and was later called to participate in these tournaments, he was swelling with pride and joy.

“I felt very happy when I heard that I was called to play because it is a huge opportunity to play in these tournaments and compete against people from all over the world.”, said Alejandro.

Elisa, Luciana and Alejandro will join a delegation of 51 national golfers chosen due to their National Amateur Ranking taken on April 2nd.  harán parte de una delegación de 51 golfistas a nivel nacional (IMG: 30; Optimist: 21) que se escogieron tomando en cuenta el Ranking Nacional Aficionado del 2 de abril.

We wish to congratulate Luciana, Elisa and Alejandro for such a grand achievement. At CCB, we are proud of you.
